Discovery Zone Luxembourg City Film Festival 2013

3rd time out there and with 3.200 more viewers and enthusiasts than last year, Discovery Zone is definitely to grow past its childhood and get in the map of film festivals.

For the first time, Discovery Zone gave some international prizes -because this year (2013) it became international itself. Fill the Void (2012) by Rama Burshtein won Best Film or Grand Prix (funny title, huh), Clip by Maja Milos won the Critics' Prize or Prix de la Critique and the public awarded The Place beyond the Pines by Derek Cianfrance as its favourite film.

This year's hot points:

Filmreakter's pop-up bar at Ratskeller of Circle Cité (with the friendliest bar-tenders ever).

The great selection of Luxemburgish animation films, among them Emilie (2012) by Olivier Pesch (stop-motion) and the Night Light Monster by Nicola Coppak (2013) at Cinematheque.

In fact, the Young Audiences (Jeune Public) program as a whole worths a mention: with the screening of the new Tomi Ungerer film Jean de la Lune (2012) -Tomi Ungerer's books and the interesting museum dedicated at his work in Strasbourg are also to be discovered, for those who fancy illustration- and other good films for youngsters, plus the Meet the Pros workshops for those who want to have an insight in the cinema industry. Not to forget the video contest and event Creme Fraiche, organized by SNJ and CNA.

Strong documentary selection, too: The Act of Killing and Chasing Ice among them.

Whatelse? Of course, some smiley girls like Aline, Joanne, Lorena and the happy alternative crowd. (Do you wonder where they hide when the festival is over? Half of them are studying or working in the local film industry, I spotted them).

See you next year!
